As a result of slamming his racket against a net post during the men’s singles Wimbledon final on Sunday, Novak Djokovic was handed an 8,000 US dollar punishment.
The 36-year-old has been given the fine, according to the All England Lawn Tennis Club, for “racket abuse” during his loss against Carlos Alcaraz of Spain. After failing to break Alcaraz and then dropping his own service game in the pivotal fifth set of an exciting match on Centre Court, Djokovic let his fury show. During the press conference, he was asked to comment on his rage, and Djokovic said that he wasn’t proud of that moment, but it happened.
