Novak Djokovic And Carlos Alcaraz

Recent BBC statistics show that the 2023 final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz has surpassed the times when Roger Federer was vying to win Wimbledon. The Swiss star retired after reaching the final for the last time in 2019, with Djokovic and Alcaraz to take control.

BBC viewing estimates reached at 9.6 million during Federer’s 2019 final vs Djokovic, but the broadcaster has since verified that Sunday’s five-set thriller peaked at a record 11.3 million, surpassing previous Federer finals and surpassing Andy Murray’s 2016 victory.

The peak audience only takes into account viewers watching on BBC One and ignores those watching on iPlayer, where 4.1 million extra people watched the 20-year-old upset Djokovic, a rise of 58% from 2022, while 25.6 million people watched the entire tournament on BBC One. The over 11 million amount is also far higher than it was in 2018, when Novak Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios to win his fourth straight Wimbledon championship. At its peak, 7.5 million viewers watched the 2022 championship match.
