Tough luck for Gael Monfils retires from Indian Wells and the tennis fans as the Frenchman wasn’t able to play his quarterfinal against Dominic Thiem on Thursday evening in Indian Wells.

Why Monfils withdrew?

Gael wasn’t able to play because of a problem to his left Achilles. The Frenchman made the announcement to say

“I tried to warm up; my left Achilles was very painful since a couple of days. Tonight I tried, but I cannot compete 100%. So sorry guys, thank you for everything you gave me this week.”

Monfils played a fantastic match in the 4th round after he trounced Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-0 6-2 and the German just upset Djokovic 6-4 6-4.

This Indian Wells is “not over” for Monfils since he will definitely be there on Friday to support his girlfriend Elina Svitolina that will play the semifinal against Bianca Andreescu.

With this walkover, Thiem gets to his first outdoor semifinal in an ATP1000 played on hard courts.
