Belinda Bencic is back and in style!
The world no.23 is having a glorious winning streak of 9 matches after winning Dubai and following her run in Indian Wells where she is in the quarters. Even more strikingly, during these events, the Swiss has defeated the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina, Petra Kvitova, and Naomi Osaka (6-3 6-1!).
Belinda was ranked no.7 three years ago, but, unfortunately, she had to cope with a bad series of injuries that culminated with a wrist operation in 2017. It took some time, but eventually the Swiss managed to get back to a great form also helped by her boyfriend Martin Hromkovic that is her fitness trainer.
Why I am winning again
During an interview following her incredible performance against Naomi Osaka, Belinda commented
“You are more relaxed, I think because you know that it’s not the most important thing if you win the match or lose the match, and you have another chance the next week.
I think before I didn’t realize that so much. I was like every match was life or death to me.”
Head to head Belinda Bencic vs. Karolina Pliskova
Belinda will face Karolina Pliskova for a place in the semifinal in Indian Wells. There is no head to head record since they have never played each other so far.
