Svitolina reaches the semifinal in Indian Wells

The Ukrainian beats Marketa Vondrousava after a tough match

Svitolina

Great stuff for Elina Svitolina that wins yet another battle in Indian Wells after defeating Market Vondrousava in 3 sets.

The match

Even if Elina’s rank (6) was much better than Marketa’s (61), the 19-year-old was in great form after reaching the 4th round in Indian Wells beating the likes of Darya Kasaktina, Jelena Ostapenko, and Simona Halep.

Svitolina was immediately in deep waters after being broken in the 1st and then the 5th game before losing the opener 6-4.

The Ukrainian regrouped in the second set to get a strong 3-1 lead, but that wasn’t enough since the young Czech kept on coming back. Eventually, it was the world no.6 to find the solution in the second set after she broke her opponent in the 10th game (6-4).

Things got tense in the decider. Voundrousova was the first to draw blood after breaking Svitolina in the 5th game (3-2). Elina broke back immediately (3-3) to use all her experience to stay with her opponent. That worked well for Svitolina that once again broke Marketa in the 10th game before winning this contest 4-6 6-4 6-4 after 2 hours and 11 minutes.
