Things got a bit strange this year at Wimbledon. The organization has struggled a lot, but with some heavy rain during the first days of the competitions and the “infamous” curfew. All matches have to be stopped by 11:00 pm, according to the local regulations. Therefore, it has happened quite a lot that matches have had to be stopped before their end. Novak Djokovic played against Hubert Hurkacz for two days in two completely different conditions. The Serbian sensation was quite vocal in saying that he agrees that matches on top courts should start much earlier.
He said: “Obviously curfew is probably something that is much more difficult to change, I understand, because of the community and the residential area we are in. I think the matches could be pushed at least to start at 12:00. I think it would make a difference.
I warmed up for both of those matches (Wawrinka and Hurkacz) around 1 p.m., something like this. Should you go back to the accommodation—the house nearby—or should you stay? Yesterday, I decided to stay. I stayed for basically seven hours, waiting for my match to start.
Today, I’m thinking I have at least an hour and a half. Then, after 20 minutes, my match is called because there was a retirement in the ladies match before us.”
