Ward upsets Isner in epic. GB leads USA 2-0

What a day for James Ward in Glasgow!

The British no.2 had the improbable task of playing John Isner in the second rubber against USA to pull out an incredible upset.

Andy Murray won the first rubber over Young with a relatively easy 6-1 6-1 4-6 6-2 and everybody was expecting Isner to defeat Ward in the following match, but James disagreed. The world no.111 recovered from 2 sets down to finally win 6-7 (4) 5-7 6-3 7-6 (3) 15-13 after almost 5 hours.

Ward: The best atmosphere I have ever involved

James was absolutely ecstatic after his win to comment “This is by far the best atmosphere I’ve ever been involved in and thank you very much to all the crowd. It was difficult. I had a lot of chances in the last set. It was an unbelievable match.” Ward won the match only after winning his 6th match point.

Isner: It was brutal

John was devastated after this loss “It’s brutal. I’m barely going to sleep tonight, it’s awful. I’m healthy. Mentally I’m certainly a bit shaken right now but I’ve got to be a professional and bring my best on Sunday. I don’t feel too chipper right now but I’ll let it rip on Sunday if that match is live.”

Britain now leads 2-0  and Isner has to find his strength if he wants to win a very important point against Murray on Sunday… if they are going to play it.
