Incredible stuff in Indian Wells as an in-form Belinda Bencic demolishes the defending champion and world no.1 Naomi Osaka in straight sets.
The match
Ranked no. 23, Belinda was on a great 8-matches winning streak after she won Dubai and she reached the 4th round in Indian Wells and it was clear that she was a big hurdle for Naomi Osaka.
Belinda started the match in the best possible way after she broke Naomi at 15 in the very first game before conquering an outstanding 5-1 lead. At that point, Naomi tried to stage a proper comeback to get closer and closer to the Swiss and reach a 3-5 30-0 scoreline after dropping just 3 points in the previous 2 games. Unfortunately for the Japanese, that was the beginning of the end since she wasn’t able to hold her serve to lose 7 of the following 8 games.
Belinda won the match 6-3 6-1 in just 65 minutes.
