A good start from Denis Shapovalov in Indian Wells that impressed with a straight sets win over the world no.38, Steve Johnson.
The match
The young Canadian was perfect in his quest never to concede his serve while breaking Johnson once per set. Denis had a shot at breaking his opponent twice in the 4th game while Johnson was 15-40, but he didn’t make it. Eventually, he found the solution in the 8th game (5-3) to before winning the opener 6-3.
In the second set, Shapovalov broke the American already in the 3rd game (2-1). However, this time the Canadian had to battle hard to hold his serve in 6th and last game after saving 4 break points. Eventually, Shapovalov managed to win this match in 81 minutes with a 6-3 6-4 scoreline.

Denis will face Marin Cilic for a place in the 4th round. The head to head is 1-0 for Cilic that defeated Denis last year in the 1st round in Basel 6-4 6-2.
