Nadal reaches the Buenos Aires final!

Rafael Nadal reaches the final in Buenos Aires after beating Carlos Berlocq in straight sets.

The key of the semifinal against the Argentine was when Rafa saved 5 consecutive set points in the tiebreak (he was 1-6 down) to finally win the breaker at 7.  Rafa didn’t start well in the second set to immediately drop his serve (0-2), but once again Carlos imploded to lose the following 6 games. Nadal: I am happy with the victory

Rafa commented “I was serving short in the first set and he was very aggressive. In the second I was more aggressive and more dynamic with my shots. The tranquility and confidence gave me more energy at the end. I’m happy with the victory.”

The final vs. Monaco

Rafa will play his dear friend Pico Monaco in the final. Head to head is 4-1 for Rafa that has always demolished Monaco with the exception of his only loss when he had to retire (Cincinnati).

Rafa commented “I’m happy for Pico, who had long since reached a final. It’s a joy to play this decisive match against a friend and for me it is also very important to play my first final of the year here in Buenos Aires, a place where I feel the affection of the people.”

Nadal is the overwhelming favorite for the title.
