Federer wins his 7th Dubai!

Roger Federer plays an incredible final against Novak Djokovic to win his 7th title in Dubai. The fact that the Maestro was at his very best was clear  especially after his smashing performance against Borna Coric in the semifinal when Roger crashed the teenager with a convincing 6-2 6-1 win. But of course Djokovic is the toughest test you can encounter nowadays, so it was interesting to see how Roger would have behaved against the world no.1.

Break points conversion was the key

The match was of a great quality and eventually the difference between these two giants was a couple of breaks, one per set. Roger broke Nole in the 8th game of the opener to break him again in 11th game of the second set. Uncharacteristically Roger was perfect in his break point conversion (2 of 2) while Nole couldn’t convert any of the 7 opportunities he had on Federer’s serve (also because in those occasions the Swiss was perfect). The match ended with the result of 6-3 7-5. Match Stats.

Federer: Last break was big

Roger commented “I think the first set belonged to me; whereas the second set belonged to him more. He created many more opportunities. I struggled to get into his service games more frequently. It seemed like the moment I wasn’t serving great he created chances for himself and put a lot of pressure on me. It was a huge game clearly at 5-5, 40/0 for him. I crawled my way back into the game and ended up breaking him. So that was big, but I think the break points saved were even bigger tonight.”

This is Rogers’s 84th career title and the second of the season after Brisbane… more to come!

Federer will now head to Indian Wells where he has reached the final last year losing to … Novak Djokovic.
