Solid Naomi Osaka reaches the 3rd round in Indian Wells in style

The Japanese dismisses Kiki Mladenovic in straight sets

Naomi Osaka is back to winning ways in Indian Wells after dismissing Kiki Mladenovic in straight sets.

This test was extremely important for the world no.1 because it was her first match with the new coach Jermaine Jenkins and she also wanted to avenge her recent defeat in Dubai that came at the hands of Mladenovic.

The match

The first set was particularly even with Osaka winning the decisive break only in the 6th game (4-2) before winning the opener 6-3.

The Japanese was vastly superior in the second set especially after she grabbed a 5-2 lead (2 breaks up). Then Osaka blinked in the 8th game when she tried to serve out the match to be broken for the first time in this contest. However, it was already too late for the Frenchwoman, and the world no.1 wrapped up the match soon after to win 6-3 6-4 in 81 minutes.

Next vs. Collins. H2H and stats

Naomi will face the world no.25 Danielle Collins in the 3rd round. The head to head is 1-0 for Osaka that demolished Danielle 6-1 6-0 last year in Beijing.
