Simona Halep and Barbora Strycova are going to face off in the 2nd round in Indian Wells on Friday as the 3rd match in the morning in the Stadium no.2 (the contest is estimated to start at 3 pm).

Ranked no.2, Simona has a shot at regaining her world no.1 status if she wins Indian Wells for the second time in her career after 2015. The Romanian decided to take it easy during the offseason to recover from her back injury and disconnect with the tennis world for some time. The result was that Simona was a bit rusty at the beginning of the season to lose her first match in Sydney against Ashleigh Barty. However, the Romanian had better results soon after to get to the 4th round in Melbourne (defeated by Serena Williams) before reaching the final in Doha and the quarters in Dubai. Strycova
Ranked no. 50, the Czech is not having one of her finest seasons. She has a 4-5 win-loss record, and the only decent run she had in 2019 was reaching the quarters in Doha. Barbora got to the 2nd round in Indian Wells after beating Viktorija Golubic 6-2 7-6 (4).
