Djokovic, Murray win the opener in Dubai

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have a good start in Dubai.

Djokovic

The seed no.1 defeated Pospisil with a clean 6-4 6-4. Nole was in cruise control till the 4th game of the second set when he dropped his serve (2-all) the game soon after breaking Pospisil. Finally the Serbian managed to break Vasek again in the 7th game  (4-3) to win the match in 78 minutes. Match Stats.

After the match Nole commented “I’m still looking for that rhythm on the court. I managed to stay mentally tough. I was patient in rallies, I thought. As soon as we get through the rally, I have a better chance of winning. He’s a very flashy player, aggressive, goes after his shots.

Nole will play Golubev in the second round. Head to head is 3-0 for the world no.1.

Murray

Andy had a tricky match against an in-form Gilles Muller. Even if the Scott was at his very best, Muller was always there trying to find a gap in Andy’s game. Eventually the world no.3 won 6-4 7-5 in 1 hour and 45 minutes. Match Stats.

Andy commented “I think the end of both sets I didn’t serve so well. But apart from that, I didn’t give him any opportunities really. I feel like I got a little bit unlucky at the end of the second set. He got a couple of net cords in that last game, the 5-4 game where I got broken, and did very well to respond straightaway and get the break right back. I thought I played a fairly high quality match.”

Murray will play next match against Joao Sousa. Head to head is 4-0 for Andy.
