Venus Williams, 43, is in fantastic form and during a sarcastic press conference, she said she may try to play until she is 50.
The five-time champion, who made her debut at the All-England club in 1997 during Tony Blair’s early years as prime minister, continues to draw large crowds, and she has no idea of it. She gushed about playing Elina Svitolina in the first round on Centre Court, showed sympathy for Ukraine, and hinted at the alluring possibility of continuing to play far into her fifties.
Venus commented: “I haven’t played a lot of matches, not by choice, I wanted to play and couldn’t. I put even more work in to it. You have to deal with life and I’ve dealt with my life and most of the time, I come out on top.
About playing until she turns 50, Venus commented: “It’s never been done before so if there was one to try it, it would be me.”
"Play until 50? Why not. It's never been done before, so if there was one to try, it would be me."
