Who is Naomi Osaka’s coach Jermaine Jenkins

Naomi has recently appointed Jermaine Jenkins as her new coach. Here Jermaine's profile.

Jermaine Jenkins

Naomi Osaka has just appointed Jermaine Jenkins as her new coach after parting ways with Sascha Bajin.

Currently 34, Jermaine is the typical product of the collegiate tennis success in the United States. The American played at Clemson University from 2003 to 2007 where he also served as the team captain.

After his college, Jermaine worked as a coach helping also his brother Jarmere to reach a career-high singles ranking of No.190.

In 2015, Jermaine was part of the Venus Williams’ team when he served as hitting partner. This was a striking similarity with Sascha Bajin’s path as the German served (for longer) as the hitting partner of Serena Williams.

During his partnership with Venus, the American managed to scale back the rankings (world no.5) after she reached the finals at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the WTA Finals in Singapore in 2017.

Eventually, Jermaine was instrumental to successfully introduce his brother Jarmere to Serena Williams for a post as hitting partner.

Early in 2019, Jermaine was named as a national coach for women’s tennis by the USTA, but that didn’t last much after Naomi Osaka offered him to become her coach.

Interesting journey…
