Andy Murray lost against Holger Rune in straight sets in the Hurlingham Club during his final pre-Wimbledon warm-up match. The two-time Wimbledon winner was defeated 6-4 6-4 at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Open after choosing to play more match play after losing in the first round at Queen’s Club last week.
Murray displayed good court movement against his 20-year-old opponent, but he was unable to take advantage of his opportunities, including four break points in the sixth game of a close first set. The 36-year-old committed a double fault that gave Rune the opening break of the match, and after losing serve in the opening game of the second set, he was ultimately unable to mount a comeback.
Andy was still happy after the match to comment: “It’s great obviously to play these sorts of matches a few days out from Wimbledon. He’s one of the top players in the world, so you get to see exactly where your game is at. There are things to work on but it keeps you very sharp.
I would have liked to have done a little bit better, but I can start from here and build on this.”
