We were really eager to see the draw in Dubai and we had 2 big surprises as Serena Williams and Genie Bouchard withdrew.
The world no.1 will not play for illness (another one….). Probably the most incredible withdrawal is Genie’s. In fact, the Canadian Beauty managed to get a “last-minute wildcard” from the tournament and soon after she decided not to play citing arm injury. The beginning of Genie’s partnership with her new coach Sumyk hasn’t been very lucky (she lost in the Antwerp opener where she was seeded no.1).

The Draw is still strong with the following seeds: Halep, Kvitova, Wozniacki, Ivanovic, Radwanska, Makarova, Kerber and Venus Williams as the top seeds.
