There is bad news for Wimbledon defending champion Elena Rybakina, who could not compete in Eastbourne this week. Elena has been struggling since the French Open with the viral illness, and therefore she decided to take one week off before playing in SW 19.
She said: “I still think I’m not 100% physically where I want to be, but slowly it’s getting better.”

Ranked world no.3 (career-high), Rybakina played her last match on the 21st of June when she was defeated by world no.20 Donna Vekic 6-7(1) 6-3 6-4 in the 2nd round in Berlin (draw).
During this season Rybakina has managed to achieve an overall 33-8 match record. Rybakina has won 2 titles in 2023 in Indian Wells and Rome. Elena was the finalist at the Australian Open and Miami.
