Janowicz can win his first career title in Montpellier

Jerzy Janowicz has finally the opportunity to win his first career title. The Pole has reached 2 ATP finals so far in Bercy (2012 lost to Ferrer) and in Winston-Salem (2014 lost to Rosol).

Jerzy’s last hurdle will be home favorite Richard Gasquet that has defeated his compatriot Gael Monfils 6-4 6-3 in the semifinal.

Janowicz reached this final after winning a sticky match against Joao Sousa 7-6(9), 3-6, 6-1 in the semis. The duo battled in the first 2 sets, than the Portuguese melted in the decider.

Janowicz is extremely pleased to have reached this final also because he has managed to save 6 match points in the first match against Dustin Brown.  “I’m happy I won this match. I didn’t play my best tennis today. I knew he would be a dangerous opponent. He played very well. I was so close to go home during the first match; I saved six match points. So I’m extremely happy to play the final tomorrow.”

Head to Head

Gasquet will be the 3rd French that Janowicz will play in this tournament after having defeated Paire and Simon. Head to head is 2-1 for the Frenchman. The last time they played each other was last year still in Montpellier when Richard won 7-6 (6) 7-6 (4) in the semis. Gasquet is the favorite.
