Stefanos Tsitsipas demonstrates again that he is growing more and more from a mental point of view.
The Greek has been competing in his 4th consecutive tournaments in Dubai during February. In addition, the world no.11 played 5 matches in 7 days in 2 different continents before clashing against Hubert Hurkacz in the quarters, and he managed the situation pretty well.
The match
Ranked no.77, Hurkacz was full of confidence ahead of his clash with Stefanos strong of his 2nd round win against the seed no.1 and world no.6 Kei Nishikori (7-5 5-7 6-2). Therefore, even if Stefanos defeated the Pole 6-4 6-2 eight days before, the Greek was well aware that he had to battle hard to reach the semifinal.
After winning the 1st set at the tiebreak, Stefanos looked on his way to win the match in straight sets after he conquered a 5-3 lead in the second set. However, the Greek got a bit “flimsy” when he was serving for the match to be broken and later lose the following breaker at 1.
The 20-year-old was impressing how he managed to reset in the 3rd set to clinch a strong 5-0 lead that instrumental for him to win the match 7-6(4) 6-7 (1) 6-1.
