For the last few months world no.7 Genie Bouchard has been without a formal coach (since her shocking split with Nick Saviano).
Genie has been spotted training in Australia with Diego Ayala that looked to be the obvious candidate. Instead Genie opted for 47-year-old Sam Sumyk that has already coached former world no.1 Vika Azarenka (5 years) and former world no.2 Vera Zvonareva.
The situation is a bit complex as Sam’s wife, Meilen Tu, is working Genie’s former agent (Lagardere), but probably they didn’t think this was a critical factor.
Sam and Genie have been spotted training at the National Tennis Centre in Montreal and the Canadian is expected to disclose the news before leaving Canada (to Dubai?).
Sumyk declined to comment.
