Bouchard’s absence respected by Fed Cup captain

Genie Bouchard’s decision not to play the upcoming Fed Cup tie against the Czech Republic raised more than one eyebrow.

The Canadian Beauty lost in the Australian Open quarters against Maria Sharapova (27th of January) to have 10 days to prepare for the Fed Cup. Even if Genie said she was not sure about her participation, many were expecting her to finally agree because the tie should have been played in Quebec City (no dealing with jet lag) and the Czech Republic would have been orphan of its most representative players Petra Kvitova and Lucie Safarova (so no tough matches to play). Eventually Genie declined.

Fed Cup captain: I understand Genie

Sylvain Bruneau commented “She’s no different than any other player in the top 10 on the female or the male side. They don’t always play Fed Cup every single time that they are asked — or Davis Cup. It’s different. She’s top 10, she wants to be winning Grand Slams and I think she’s going to be making decisions every single time if it’s good or not and I get it.”

OK… NEXT TIME IS FINE…
