Berdych deafeats Monfils to win the 2012 Open Sud de France

Berdych won his 7th career title by defeating the defending champion (and home favorite) Gael Monfils in 3 sets.

Berdych had a breakthrough when the French committed a horrible double fault when serving in the 8th game of the decider.

At that point Berdych could not miss it to win the third set 6-3.

‘It was very close in the end. I’m happy that I was able to do it,’ Berdych said. ‘Actually, it’s even more special to beat the home player, unfortunately for the crowd.’

‘Tomas had a great match,’ Monfils said. ‘He got off to a good start, so I had less maneuvering room. I tried my best. I tried to return better, I tried to play with a bit more aggression too.’

ZAGREB
Mikhail Youzhny beat Lukas Lacko 6-2, 6-3 Sunday to win the Zagreb Indoors.

‘This was my best match of the tournament,’ Youzhny said. ‘I gained some confidence here but I don’t want to think about whether I will be in the top 10 again or not.’

This was the first final played by Lacko and we are sure it will have better chances in the future.

VINA DEL MAR
Juan Monaco defeated Carlos Berlocq 6-3, 6-7 (1-7), 6-1 to win his 4th ATP title.
Also Berlocq was playing his first ATP final.
