On Saturday, Russian player Alina Korneeva won the French Open girls’ title, while Dino Prizmic of Croatia won the boys’ final.

In the clay-court Grand Slam competition at Roland Garros, they both started out as third seeds and both lost just one set.

In the boys’ final, the 17-year-old Prizmic defeated Bolivia’s Juan Carlos Prado Angelo 6-1, 6-4, while the 15-year-old Korneeva had earlier defeated No. 6 Lucciana Perez Alarcon 7-6 (4), 6-3, to build on her triumph at the Australian Open. After Marin Cilic in 2005, Prizmic became the third player from Croatia to win a boys’ major, after Borna Coric and Mili Poljicak. Prizmic also became the second player from Croatia to win the boys’ title at Roland Garros.

Prado Angelo, an 18-year-old who was seeded eighth, was attempting to become the first player from Bolivia to win a junior singles championship at a major. He dropped his service three times and was unable to capitalize on his two break points. Since 2013, when Ana Konjuh and Belinda Bencic each won two majors, Korneeva became the first female to do so. She is also the first female to win the first two majors of a season since Magdalena Maleeva in 1990.

Six times, Korneeva broke Perez Alarcon’s serve while recording three aces. Perez Alarcon, 18, double-failed nine times and only four of her nine break-point opportunities were successful.

The first female from Peru to make it to a junior final was Perez Alarcon. Luis Horna lost the 1997 Roland Garros final, and Peru’s Jaime Yzaga won the French Open boys’ title in 1985.

On Court Simonne-Mathieu, both championship matches were held.
