Bouchard may not play the Fed Cup

Genie Bouchard has just ended her run at the Australian Open after being defeated by a great Maria Sharapova and now there are some doubts about her presence at the Fed Cup.

Team Canada will play Czech Republic (orphan of top players Kvitova and Safarova) in Quebec City. The absence of Petra and Lucie is good news for the North American team, but the Canadians have no chances if Genie won’t show up.

Genie: I don’t know if I am going to play

After losing to Sharapova in Melbourne,  Genie commented “Well, I don’t know if I’m playing or not. Am I playing, Jill? [her agent]. Well, I’m going to go visit the family, that’s for sure. Take some time off, rest the body a bit.

You know, my tournament ended like half an hour ago, so I’m still going to talk to my team and make the best decision for me if I can play or not,”

From Tennis Canada

Eugene Lapierre, the Tennis Canada vice-president, commented “It’s the first time we’re there [World Group I] and we’d like to go to the next round and make it to the semifinals. But Eugenie knows that, and she’s demonstrated in the past that she likes playing in the Fed Cup. So I’m sure her decision will be the good one.”

The tie will take place the 7th of Feb. Let’s see if Genie will make it.
