Sara Sorribes Tormo and Marie Bouzkova won their last match in doubles at the French Open, but they completely lost their face.

Following Miyu Kato’s contentious default from their third-round doubles match at the French Open on Sunday, Sara Sorribes Tormo has come under fire and had to defend herself.

A ball girl was accidentally hit by Kato during the second set of the match between the Japanese and Indonesian teams of Kato and Aldila Sutjiadi and the Spanish-Czech combination Sorribes Tormo and Marie Bouzkova. Kato didn’t throw a punch at the ball out of rage.

Sorribes Tormo and Bouzkova objected when umpire Alexandre Juge initially gave a warning to Kato and Sutjiadi. The ball girl was crying, it was implied that she was bleeding by one of the players said, “This is default.” After some time had passed Kato was defaulted. The winners have now drawn harsh criticism for forcing a completely unfair default.

Sorribes Tormo gave her own version of the facts, which was different from the reality probably not aware that a video was already circulating.

“First of all, we were saying that the ball kid was crying because we were scared, because we were [saying]: ‘Oh, something happened. Then we were saying that the ball was direct because the umpire didn’t see the ball. All the rest of the decision was taken by the supervisor, and I think it’s not our thing or we haven’t done anything bad. That’s the only thing I’m going to say about this.”

The Spanish player omitted to say that they clearly said: “It’s a default” and that there was “blood,” which was completely untrue.
