“It was a double bounce. That’s life,” says Holger Rune about controversial point vs. Cerundolo at the French Open

Rune About Double Bounce

Holger Rune was slammed by social media for not conceding a point to Francisco Cerundolo after he hit the ball following a double bounce. When Francisco Cerundolo noticed the double bounce, he stopped the rally and voiced his displeasure to the umpire. He did, however, lose the point as a result of his complaint.

According to many tennis fans, it was impossible that Holger Rune did not know that it was a double bounce and therefore, he was more than happy to “steal” the point.

During the press conference that followed the match, the Danish player admitted that he noticed that it was indeed a double bounce.

He commented: “Yeah, so when I was hitting the ball, I didn’t know, I just ran for it. But then obviously when I saw it, after he did call it, I saw it after the next point on the TV, and I saw it was a double bounce.

But the point already happened and he called the score. So I felt sorry. Sorry for him. Yeah, I mean, then I managed to break him. I hold serve. Then after he broke me it was close again.

You know, this is tennis. This is sports. You know, some umpires, they make mistakes. Some for me; some for him. That’s life.”
