Murray beats Dimitrov in epic, Kyrgios next

Wimbledon has been avenged.

Last year Andy Murray suffered from a shocking defeat in Wimbledon (quarters) from Grigor Dimitrov in straight (and painful) sets.  This year the outcome in Melbourne was different. Andy played (once again) a very solid tennis to win 6-4 6-7 (5) 6-3 7-5 in 3 hours and 32 minutes.

Grigor has a lot to think about has he wasted a 3-0 lead in the first set (then lost 6-4) and then even worst  5-2 lead in the 4th set when all of the sudden he lost 5 consecutive games.

VERY UNHAPPY…

Match Stats

Overall Murray scored 154 points v. Dimitrov’s 135. Grigor was particularly weak on his serve to blast only 4 aces (3 double faults). The Bulgarian won just 34% points on his second serve and he was broken 7 times!

Murray, Dimitrov match stats

Murray: I played very well

Andy was very pleased with his level “I thought I played well. I thought he started the match extremely well. He came out very aggressive, very explosive. But it’s tough to keep that level of intensity up. Once I got myself into the match, I felt like I was able to dictate a lot of the points.

I thought tactically I played a good match. I was disappointed with the 6-5 game I played in the second set. Also the tie-break I made a few bad decisions. Third set was good. And fourth set, I just fought hard at the end and he played a loose game when he served for the set.”

Dimitrov:  Disappointed

Grigor commented “I’m not going to hide my disappointment. If you lose you obviously haven’t done some things right. I’m happy that I competed at a good level and it takes a player like Andy to beat me like that. I’m just disappointed because it’s not the result that I wanted. For sure I could have done things better.”

Next vs. Kyrgios

Andy will play Nick Kyrgios for a place in the semifinal. Head to head is 1-0 for the Scott
