Rafael Nadal undergoes keyhole surgery on his left hip, hoping to fix his psoas

Rafael Nadal underwent surgery to determine the extent of his hip issue, but still isn't fully recovered and missed the French Open for the first time in nearly two decades.

Nadal Surgery

On Friday night, Rafael Nadal underwent surgery to determine the full extent of his hip issue. With the injury he sustained at the Australian Open in January, the 22-time grand slam champion originally anticipated missing six to eight weeks of play. Yet, nearly five months later, he still isn’t fully recovered.

After admitting his team had not been able to come up with a solution, Nadal was forced to miss the French Open for the first time in nearly two decades. The 37-year-old Spaniard revealed last month that he would be taking a vacation, possibly for the remainder of the current campaign, before what he anticipates will be his final tour the following year.
