Daria Kasatkina discussed the importance of promoting equality during Pride Month, which got underway on June 1st, saying that individuals are humans first and foremost.

The Russian openly announced a relationship with Natalia Zabiiako last year after coming out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Given the strongly anti-LGBTQ+ climate present in her own country, it was regarded as a really bold act, and some people in Russia even applauded her. There were several people who condemned her and used some extremely harsh language.

During a recent interview with Eurosport, Daria commented:

“I’m not used to it because I’m from somewhere where it’s not…you know…not a very nice thing so in Europe I feel like it’s something bigger. I think it’s important to let people know we’re all equal and we’re all the same. There is no difference, we’re all people so I think it’s very important. I’m not sure I’ll participate but I’m going to support from my hotel room and the tennis court but I think it’s very nice and very important.”
