New year, same old Simona Halep.

The Romanian reaches the final in Doha after beating Elina Svitolina in 3 sets following an incredible comeback.

The match

After exchanging the first 2 sets, Simona found herself in an impossible situation in the decider when she was 1-4 down, and she had to face 3 break points. Eventually, the former world no.1 found her way to stun Svitolina after holding her serve to conquer 5 consecutive games win yet another impossible match 6-3 3-6 6-4 in 2 hours and 7 minutes.

Happy because I didn’t give up. HALEP

After the match, Simona commented

“I’m happy because I didn’t give up. The two finals that I played against her in Rome I gave up, and I was not ready to fight. Now I change that, and it makes me happier because I showed myself that I’m able to do that.”

The final against Mertens

Simona will play her 34th final against Elise Mertens. The head to head is 2-0 for Halep that has defeated the Belgian on clay on both occasions.
