Simona Halep wins one of “her” incredible battles in Doha against Julia Goerges to reach the semifinal.
The match
Simona started in the best possible way after she gained a quick 4-0 lead after dropping just 6 points. Then things started to become complicated, and Julia managed to win 6 of the following 7 games to conquer a 6-5 lead. At that point, Simona was fantastic to find her way back and drop only 2 points in the next game (6-6) and the breaker (7-6 (1)).
However, the struggle was not over, and Julia was able to gather momentum to clinch a 5-3 lead in the second set. Nevertheless, the German was broken at love when she was supposed to serve for the set and once again the affair went to the breaker. After a slow start (1-4), Simona had to face 2 consecutive set points when she was 4-6 down. The former world no.1 managed to grab 4 straight points before winning the match 7-6 (1) 7-6 (8) in slightly more than 2 hours.
