Great stuff from Simona Halep that after being decisive last weekend for Team Romania to reach the Fed Cup semifinal, she managed to have a great start of her campaign in Doha where she defeated Lesya Tsurenko 6-2 6-3.
The match
Simona started strong immediately to grab a decisive 5-0 lead. After winning the first set (6-2), the former world no.1 found her self trailing 1-3 in the second set. Eventually, Halep found her groove again to conquer the following 5 games and win the match 6-2 6-3 in 79 minutes.
After this win, Simona is sure that she will go 1 place up in the rankings after this week to be the world no.2.
Next vs. Julia Goerges
Simona will face Julia Goerges for a place in the semifinal. The head to head is 2-1 for Simona.
