Tsonga triumphs in Montpellier after beating 4 Frenchmen

Currently ranked no. 210, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga wins his 17th career title after beating Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4 6-2.

This is Jo-Wilfried’s 1st title since October 2017 (Antwerp) as the Frenchman had to endure a knee operation in April 2018.

On his way to his title in Montpellier, Tsonga defeated 4 Frenchmen after beating Ugo Humbert, Gilels Simon, Jeremy Chardy, and Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

After winning the final, Jo-Wilfried commented

“I am very happy with the way I played this week. It was an amazing moment for me to win here in Montpellier… I have made many efforts to come back [here], so for me it is a good reward and I hope I will be able to continue playing at this level.”

After this win, the Frenchman is projected to gain 70 places to be the new world no.140.

Tsonga will now head to Rotterdam where he will face Thomas Fabbiano in the opener.
