Del Potro retires from the Australian Open

Juan Martin Del Potro didn’t make it!

The Argentine was back to competitions in Sydney after a 10 months’ absence to reach the quarters. Even if Delpo’s left wrist has healed, the Argentine is still battling with some pain to struggle to hit heavy double-handed backhands.

Juan Martin didn’t feel fit for the first slam of the season and he eventually decided to retire from the Australian Open posting on Facebook

Hello everyone. As you may know, I will not play the Australian Open due to pain in my wrist. It’s a pity that I cannot take part in such an important tournament, yet this is another episode in the long way to recovery. I will follow the advice of my doctors and try to return as soon as possible. I appreciate the support that I received since I announced I was playing in Sydney, it was amazing, and also in the past few days. Thank You!

Delpo will be replaced by Lucky Loser and world no. 146 Hiroki Moriya that will face Jerzy Janowicz in the first round.
