Novak Djokovic is unsure about his own tennis future in light of Rafael Nadal’s recent statement that he intends to retire after the 2024 season.

For the first time since his debut at the French Open in 2005, Djokovic’s fiercest rival Nadal is not participating in the French Open after failing to recover from a hip injury. The tennis legend, who will turn 37 in June, also disclosed that he will put his tennis racket away at the conclusion of the upcoming season when he announced his resignation from the clay-court Grand Slam.

Djokovic, who turned 36 on May 22 and is in his 20th year as a pro, acknowledged that Nadal’s plans caused him to reflect and that he has had “internal conversations.”

The Serbian sensation commented: “It made me wonder and, and question myself and, and where, where the end of my career is going to be and how, so because, you know, we all knew that that might be coming around the corner because of his injuries and everything and, and of course, the age and the amount of years he has played on the tour.”
