Matteo Berrettini

records one of the most important wins of his career in Sofia after beating the seed no.1 Karen Khachanov.

Ranked no.53, the 22-year-old from Italy was 1 set down against the Russian after he failed to convert a set point. The Italian was great in the following 2 sets to never drop his serve. Therefore, a break per set was enough for him to win 6-7 (6) 6-3 6-4.

I am really happy. BERRETTINI

After the match, Matteo commented

“I’m really happy for the win. I think we did a great match.

I was really focused in the second set. I was feeling better and better. I lost against him twice when we were juniors, so I’m really happy.”

Berrettini will face either Marius Copil or Fernando Verdasco in the quarters.

A GREAT WIN
