Vesely to play for the Auckland title

Finally after so many years we have some interesting prospect players that can really be part of the tennis Gotha in the future to come. Everybody talks about Kyrgios, Kokkinakis, Tomic (still), Zverev, Coric and Thiem, but there was a guy that has been (too much) under the radar: Jiri Vesely.

The 21-year-old has finally managed to find a solid tennis to challenge top players. Jiri has now reached the final in Auckland coming straight from the qualifications beating high ranked players such as Gulbis and Anderson. Vesely has now a shot at his maiden title against world no. 44 Mannarino and he has great chances to win this tournament.

Vesely's performance in 2014

Vesely defeated boom boom (and world no.16) Anderson 6-4 7-6 (4) without dropping a single service game.

After the match Jiri commented “I started again pretty well, as I have done every match here in Auckland. I took control of the match, he wasn’t serving as well as he could. I held my serve for 5-5 [in the 2nd set], a tough game, and then I broke him to serve for the match. He came back and played well.”

Mannarino reached the final beating lucky-loser and compatriot Lucas Pouille 6-4 3-6 7-5.

This will be the first time they play each other.
