Garbine Muguruza confirmed in an interview with Hola magazine that she is getting married to Arthur Borges, her boyfriend of over two years.
The two-time Grand Slam winner and former world number one has decided to take a professional hiatus until the end of the grass-court season, thus she is now off the circuit.
In the interview, Muguruza describes how, two years ago, in August 2021, while attending the US Open in New York, she first met her future spouse. Garbine will not be back to competitions before 2024.
The proposal
Garbine revealed how Artur proposed:
“He asked me at the Marbella Club hotel, which is one of my favourite. He set up a little table for me under a tree and I said ‘What is this?’ It seemed strange to me, but I was thinking of something else, and when he asked me, I started to cry, I didn’t know how to react.”

At the moment ranked no.167, Muguruza played her last match on the 30th of January when she lost to world no.48 Linda Noskova 6-1 6-4 in the 1st round in Lyon (draw).
Currently, during this year the Spaniard has managed to achieve a compiled 0-4 win-loss record.
