Simona Halep had finally to take the decision to start hiring a new coach after parting ways with Darren Cahill.
The former world no.1 decided to stay coachless during the off-season and the Australian summer not to put any additional pressure on herself after 2 tough and successful years.
Simona has now decided to partner with Thierry van Cleemput at least for 1 month as a trial base.
Who is Thierry van Cleemput?
Thierry started coaching back in 1993 and he had the opportunity to coach Olivier Rochus (1993-1997), Steve Darcis (2011-2012), and David Goffin (2014-2019). Apparently, the relationship with David ended on the occasion of the Australian Open.
The comment from Simona
“It was very good, I trained well.
We started the collaboration and we will work together. I hope to be fine. It is something new, something different and it will not be easy but I trust it will be good. The training is a bit different, his personality is a little different, but it is a new challenge for me and we will see how I will do it.”
Simona will play the Qatar Open next week. That will be a fantastic occasion to understand how this partnernship will work.
