Del Potro stopped in Sydney

Juan Martin Del Porto couldn’t reach the final 4 in Sydney as he was stopped by a good Kukushkin and … his own wrist.

Juan Martin was coming back after a 10 months’ hiatus after being operated to his left wrist. The Argentine was trying to clear some rust after this period of inactivity and he was happy about his comeback even if he didn’t manage to defend his title in Sydney.

Delpo lost in the quarters to Kukushkin 7-6 (5) 7-6 (3) after a tough match. The Argentine was clearly lacking the ability to constantly push his double handed backhand and he was also struggling in coping with the hot weather, but it was still a good test for him.

Delpo: It was a great week for me

Juan Martin was still happy for being back to the tour “It was a tough match,” he said. “But I think it’s been a great week for me.  I played three matches in a row and I played against good players, which means a good comeback for me. I served well against Kukushkin, but my wrist hurts a little bit more than Wednesday, and I couldn’t hit harder than my last match.”

Delpo will now head to Melbourne where he will play Janowicz in a tough opener.
