Dayana Yastremska has another memorable week.

The 18-year-old is experiencing an amazing ascent in her young career during the last few months. In fact, after winning her maiden title in Hong Kong in October 2018, she managed to reach the semifinal in Luxembourg, the quarters in Hobart, the round of 32 in Melbourne and now she wins the tournament in Hua Hin.

The final

Dayana was perfect during her entire week in Thailand to reach the final without losing a single set and after defeating the seed no.1 Garbine Muguruza. However, after beating Magda Linette in the semifinal, Dayana confessed that she felt a bit tired and she hoped that that would not affect her chances in the final against an in-form Ajla Tomljanovic.

Yastremska started in the best possible way the final against the Croatian to grab a quick 5-0 lead. From that moment Dayana began to struggle. The teenager won the opener 6-2, but then she lost the second set with the same scoreline.

The drama struck in the third set. After the Ukrainian grabbed a 2-0 lead, she lost 5 consecutive games (2-5, and 2 breaks down). When everything looked lost, Dayana asked for a medical time-out (not sure if there was a problem to her knee or ankle) to then win 4 straight games before the affair went to the breaker that the Ukrainian won at 3. The final score was 6-2 2-6 7-6 (3)

and the match ended after 2 hours and 22 minutes.

After this week, Dayana will be ranked no.34, and she looks set to break at least in the top20 this year.
