The world no.47 defeats the seed no.1 Garbine Muguruza 7-6 (5) 6-1 to be 2 steps away from conquering her 2nd carer title.
The match
Dayana didn’t start in the best possible way against the Spaniard to be broken immediately in the first game. After another exchange of breaks, Dayana managed to bring the opener at the breaker where a good start (4-1) helped her to win the first set 7-6 (5). That was too much for Muguruza that eventually imploded and Dayana had a smooth run in the second set before winning the encounter 7-6 (5) 6-1.

Dayana already defeated Muguruza last year in October when she won 6-2 6-3 in Luxembourg.
“I think I forgot about the match last year. I watched the highlights so I could see the tactics. I had the confidence, but it was another day, another match, like I was playing against her for the first time.”

Dayana will face Magda Linette in the semifinal. The H2H is 1-0 for Yastremska that defeated Magda 7-6 (3) 7-6 (4) in the qualifications in New Haven last year.
