Muguruza upsets Radwanska in Sydney

Agnieszka Radwanska joins the list of top players leaving the Apia International.

Seed no.1 Simona Halep couldn’t even play for a gastroenteritis; Seed no.1 Caroline Wozniacki had to withdraw while playing against Zahlavova Strycova for an injury to her wrist; seed no.6 Ekaterina Makarova lost to Suarez Navarro; seed no.8 Flavia Penentta was eliminated in her opener by defending champion Tsvetana Pironkova and now seed no.3 Agnieszka Radwanska had to bow to a very good Muguruza 3-6 7-6 (4) 6-2

Radwanska: I was a bit tired

Aga confirmed she wasn’t at her very best after a demanding Hopman Cup “[Tired] a little bit, yes, especially that last couple matches was pretty long. Plus the mixed doubles and not much rest and I was playing here the first round. So I think just everything in (a) row. I think she has really good potential, and I think every day she’s playing really good tennis, better tennis, and definitely the tennis that we going to see much more of in the future.”

Garbine Muburuza will now face Angelique Kerber for a place in the seminifinal. Head to head is 2-0 for Angelique, but we wouldn’t be surprised to witness another upset.
