Difficult choice for Naomi Osaka!
The world no.1 is well known for her tennis, her great character, and also for the fact that she is a citizen of the world!
Naomi’s mother is Japanese, while her father is Haitian. To make things even more “complicated,” Naomi and her family moved to the US when the Australian Open champion was just 3.
Initially, Naomi’s parents decided that her daughter had to represent Japan (Not USA) because they always felt Japanese.
Why Naomi has to choose between being Japanese or American?
Osaka holds both Japanese and American citizenship, but according to the Japanese law she needs to chose only 1 when she will be 22. That will happen this year (October the 16).
Why Osaka will probably decide “to be Japanese”?
Besides the very important thing that Naomi feels Japanese, she also has huge endorsements from Japanese companies such as Nissan and Nissin and renouncing the Japanese citizenship will seriously harm their relationship.
