“I am not a bad boy,” says Holger Rune after beating Djokovic in Rome

Holger Rune emphasized that he does not consider himself a "bad boy" of the tennis circuit, but instead views himself as a player with a lot of fire and vigor.

Holger Rune Not A Bad Boy

After defeating Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Italian Open quarterfinals, Holger Rune emphasized that he does not consider himself a “bad boy.” At the Italian Open, Rune defeated Djokovic 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. During the match, Rune was once more jeered by the audience for arguing with chair umpire Mohamed Lahyani following a call that favored Djokovic.

As shown by his recent matches at the Madrid Open and in Rome, the Dane is frequently jeered by the crowd during his bouts. Holger Rune was questioned about how he feels about being referred to as “the bad boy” of the tennis circuit during the press conference following the significant victory over Djokovic. The Dane disagreed, saying that he did not meet the description of a “bad boy,” who is someone who engages in behavior like breaking racquets. Rune, on the other hand, simply views himself as a player with a lot of fire and vigor.

Hoger commented: ” I don’t see myself as the bad boy at all. I mean, I play with a lot of passion and energy when I’m on the court. I think many players does that. I don’t know why that should be a bad boy thing, to play with energy on the court. A bad boy thing is to break racquets and stuff like this. If I remember well, I don’t break a racquet when I play. I don’t see myself like that.
There’s obviously a few things here and there. The umpire today. But again, I see the ball out. He saw it in. I saw on the Hawk-Eye after that the ball was out, so I don’t know.”
