It’s Federer no. 1000!!!

We can’t say that Roger Federer makes history because he has already done it so many times. Roger has just added some more (something special) to his incredible career.

In Brisbane the Swiss Maestro conquers his 83rd title to clinch a historical 1000th win. Roger is the 3rd man to achieve that after Connors (1253) and Lendl (1071).

It wasn’t easy to achieve this feat today. In fact in this final Roger had to face an in-form Raonic that has played an outstanding match. We can “divide” this final in 2 big parts.

1st part of the match

The first part lasted till Roger was leading with a comfortable 6-4 2-1 (1 break up) . Roger was in full control of all rallies from the baseline and Milos was just trying to stay with him with his potent serve, every time Federer was able to put the ball down for a rally he was the likely winner. The result wasn’t that great with Canadian being 1 set and 1 break down and he had to change something.

2nd part of the match

The final was practically over and Raonic (rightly so) decided at least to give it a try to be the aggressor. That changed completely the dynamic of the match as Raonic was going continuously going for broke with the difference “that going from broke” means having a huge amount of unforced errors while Raonic was just blasting shots and winners from all over the place).  Eventually Raonic broke Roger in the 4th game of the 2nd set to also win a spectacular tiebreak at 2.

In the 3rd set Raonic was pumped, but Roger refused to let it go. Eventually the Maestro managed to break Milos in the very last game when the Canadian didn’t have much fuel left in the tank. The final result was 6-4 6-7 (2) 6-4.

Roger: I will never forget this match

The Maestro was visibly happy for this achievement “I’ve played a lot of tennis over the years so to get to 1,000 wins means a lot to me, It’s a special moment, no doubt about that. I will never forget this match.”

Now … who is the favorite for the Australian Open?
