Ferrer retires from Auckland

David will skip New Zealand because of a back injury

Tough luck for the organizers in Auckland as David Ferrer is the 3rd seed to withdraw from the tournament after Isner and Monfils.

According to Ferrer, he endured a back injury during the final against Berdych in Doha and he didn’t want to compromise his presence at the Australian Open.

The tennis organizers accepted David’s explanations “He doesn’t have a record of pulling out of events and he wouldn’t be doing so if it wasn’t absolutely necessary this time around,”

Seed no.5 Tommy Robredo got Ferrer’s place at the top of the draw after a reshuffle.

The defending champion is Isner and at this point the hot favourite for the title is Ernests Gulbis that will try to break in the top10 in 2015.
