Janowicz, Radwanska win the Hopman Cup!

Jerzy Janowiz and Agnieszka Radwanska win the Hopman Cup over Isner and Serena Williams.

The final was a thriller with Serena losing (again!) to Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 6-7 (3) , 6-1, Isner beating Janowicz 7-6 (10) 6-2. Finally team Poland won the decisive point in mixed doubles 7-5, 6-3

In the mixed doubles there was all kind of drama with a huge argument when the Polish team was winning 7-5 2-1. Janowicz celebrated when he thought that both Serena and John had struck a ball…. he was wrong! Serena complained as she thought they should have been awarded the point for distraction. After a 5 minutes discussion the point was repeated (team USA won that one).

Soon after Serena even smashed a racket in the second set in sheer frustration. … It was too late…Team Poland eventually wins this Hopman Cup edition.

From Radwanska

Aga played down the controversy to comment “It was one misunderstanding,” Radwanska said of the mixed-doubles controversy. But oh well, the most important thing is we won. The title means a lot for us. I remember last year like it was a week ago. We lost the final in the mixed doubles, so I really wanted to win this one.”

From Serena

The world no.1 was a bit disappointed by her performance to comment “Thank you John, you really held me up and gave us a chance in the final. Sorry I couldn’t help you out,”
